Methodists have signed the agreement Sunday, July 23 Lutheran-Catholic doctrine of justification by grace.
Meeting to Monday, July 24 in Seoul (South Korea), the World Methodist Council has decided to sign the agreement on the Lutheran-Catholic doctrine of justification. By this declaration, signed in 1999 in Augsburg (Germany), the Church Catholic and the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) affirmed their common faith in the "justification by faith" (see below). A point discussed since the sixteenth century and which had precipitated the rupture between Rome and Luther! In this agreement - which Cardinal Ratzinger, then prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, had personally worked - Catholics and Lutherans recognize that the convictions at the time of the Reformation no longer be needed. "Methodists are certainly in agreement with the idea of justification by faith, we must add our names to this Declaration, explained last week, the Rev. George Freeman, general secretary of the World Methodist Council, the United Methodist News Service. And stressed that "the Methodist dialogue with the Catholic Church since Vatican II." To mark the agreement, a special service was celebrated on Sunday in Seoul.
